As part of Reading Station’s huge re-development project Costain-Hochtief are widening a length of rail embankment. The 4m high embankment required vibro stone columns installed to speed up settlement and reinforce the made ground. Keller used bottom-feed stone columns over almost all of its length. However, where a pedestrian underpass, which provides access to Car Parks, crosses the new embankment the work had to be done in limited headroom.
