Major Sports Stadium, Stratford,Piling

At a large Athletics Stadium in East London Keller installed over 5000 piles using three different piling systems on a very tight programme.

This scheme offered considerable savings in cost and programme to the Client.

The site was previously contaminated resulting from its use as a light industrial area and had significant obstructions. The proposed structure had high loadings with, in some cases, high tension and lateral loads.

Different loading cases combined with a varying stratigraphy meant that no one piling system was ideal for every part of the site. Keller's wide offering meant that where high lateral loads were required such as in retaining walls we were able to offer CFA piles at up to 900mm dia and in the case of piles with low lateral loads these were particularly suitable for Driven Cast In Situ piles which were particularyl adept at dealing with the numerous obstructions around the site.

For lighter walkways, ramps and access roads the Vibro Concrete Column System was adopted. This popular displacement pile can maximise loads carried in the Terrace gravels and often provide high capacities at a short length. By mixing all three piling systems Keller delivered this flagship venue on time and below the conforming scheme tender price.
